Favourite trip, place or river that people should know more about: Kernville in the Californian Sierras.  A real gem of a town, with loads of different runs of all grades on the Kern and its tribs.  You've got volume, boulders and creeks within an hour, great bars, diners and campsites.  Head to the Kern River Brewing Company for sweeeet Ale with other boaters. 

Any advice to new paddlers: Go boating as much as you can.  Literally every oppurtunity that presents itself...


Piece of kit you can’t live without: Whistle – absolutely essential for attracting attention in a noisy environment.

Any other activities you enjoy: Climbing, Travel, Playing Guitar…

The Tskhenistskali river in Georgia! A fantastic, long, challenging river with great views and great people! Not to mention that just getting to it is an adventure all its own.

Any advice to new paddlers:

Ask questions!!! The better paddler you become the more you realise how much you have yet to learn. The only people who say that things are easy are the truly stupid beginners or the truly crazy pro’s.

Piece of kit you can’t live without: My IR union suit.

Any qualifications: Level 3 kayak coach, 5* inland, 4* canoe, 4* surf, BELA, L2 MIAS.

Any other activities you enjoy: Mountain biking, Hiking, Bouldering.

Types of paddling undertaken: Running Rivers is the way forward but that's only because I can't do anything at all in a play boat Ooops!!

Countries paddled in: UK, USA, France.

Favourite trip, place or river that people should know more about: Canoeing on the St Croix for 3days in Maine USA. 

Any advice to new paddlers: Don't give up and when you get offered courses take them, as they may be of use to you one day!  And if you're not wet then you're not learning!

 Piece of kit you can’t live without: Roof Racks!  Where would we paddle without them 

Any qualifications: 2* Kayak and Canoe, 3* trained, UKCC Level 1, Life guard NPLQ, Sports Leader CSLA. 

Any other activities you enjoy: I like to have a go at most outdoor activities, but im not the best at them I must say

The Sunshine Coast just north of Vancouver is a beautiful fjord with loads of bays you can camp up in.  In the evenings the phosphorescence is so bright, it's brilliant for a midnight dip!


Any advice to new paddlers:
However tempting, don't grab onto branches hanging over a river, it will just flip you upside down!

Piece of kit you can't live without: Helmet (see above)

Any other activities you enjoy: Travelling, listening to and playing music and cooking for friends.
